With the coldest month of the year behind us, the month of August is one to get out and about again and attend a few fun and interesting events.

Wellington’s favourite food festival, ‘Visa Wellington on a Plate’ celebrates its 11th year in 2019 with its biggest celebration of food and beverage yet.

Consuming the capital for the entire month of August, Wellington’s best restaurants, inns, taverns, cellars, bars and other great venues will be the places to be to taste an assortment of culinary delights.

There’ll be literally hundreds of events with the likes of the Vegan Palooza, Wake and Bake, the Hillside Forage, the Backyard Picnic and much more.

There’ll also be some great celebrity chefs and restauranteurs attending like Cheong Liew, Kim Wejendorp, Jack Cashmore and more who’ll be doing what they do so well… cooking!

There’s nothing better than good eating so don’t miss out!

A great event to put in the calendar if you’ve got a troop of little ones to look after has to be Disney on Ice, the legendary show that comes to New Zealand this August.

This high-energy and immersive show features some amazing choreography performed by all the kids favourite Disney characters. Micky and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and all their friends will be there to delight fans both young and old alike.

On top of this, there’s a fantastic bonus to this show for New Zealand audiences. Our most favourite character in recent times, Moana, will be joining the extravaganza with her very own performance in Te Reo Maori.

In almost no time at all, they’ve gone from busking on the streets of Wellington to performing alongside some of the biggest names in the business like Ed Sheeran, Lorde and Golliraz.

We’re of course talking about Drax Project who will be performing hits from their debut album at the iconic Christchurch Town Hall in the Garden City. Also joining them for the show will be R’n’B duo, Fortunes, and up-and-coming singer/songwriter, Paige.

With millions of plays on Spotify already, these guys are only going to go from strength to strength and this is a great chance to catch them in their early years and be part of something special.

Neil Young’s music has been adored and celebrated by people all over the world including some of New Zealand’s own most talented musicians.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of his legendary Live Rust tour here and those Kiwi musicians have decided to get together to recreate the tour in its entirety. They include the likes of Jon Toogood, Liam Finn, Samuel Flynn Scott, Chris O’Connor, Delaney Davidson, Dianne Swann and more.

The concert will treat you to all of the great hits of the tour including songs like Comes a Time, After the Gold Rush, Like A Hurricane, Cinnamon Girl and more.

The accompanying album spent 50 weeks in the music charts in New Zealand and this anniversary event is sure to be just as popular.

The seventh Winter Games takes place in August against the extraordinary backdrop of the Southern Alps.

The games will bring together the best Winter Olympics and X Games stars from around the world for what is widely recognised as the first major championships of the season.

Freestyle skiing, snowboarding, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and curling will all be on show with a talented field of athletes competing for glory.

The best thing about the games (apart from the action itself) is that members of the public can watch for free! A great event to add to your own ski trip!

As you can see, there are some great events taking place in August right across New Zealand no matter where your adventures happen to take you. They’re a great way of meeting local Kiwis too so make sure you get yourself to a few if you can!
