My favourite place to travel in Aotearoa New Zealand is Whanganui a Tara Wellington. Some of the best food and restaurants and cafes, best coffee in New Zealand and a really beautiful waterfront.

  • Jess from the Wellington Branch

One of my favourite things to do during the winter is to visit the Wellington Zoo and meet our latest additions to the zoo, the snow leopards – they’ve been with us for a year now. A 10-minute drive from there are some beautiful cafes at Lyall Bay with beautiful views and beautiful food. And then, for a lovely winter’s night, you can take a walk around Oriental Parade and see the fountain light up and see the beautiful lights of the waterfront in Wellington.

  • Ali from HQ IT Team

If you're ever in Rotorua, I highly recommend stopping by Ali Baba's Tunisian Cuisine for a unique dining experience. Nestled in the heart of the city, it offers a delightful taste of North African flavors, with fresh, aromatic dishes that are perfect after a day of exploring Rotorua’s geothermal wonders. Whether you're enjoying the hot pools or taking in the vibrant culture, this restaurant is a hidden gem that adds an unforgettable touch to your visit.

  • Michael from HQ IT Team

There are several trails leading to the summit, with the hike typically taking about 30 to 60 minutes. From the top, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the coastline, the bay, and distant mountains. The scenery is especially breathtaking at sunrise and sunset.

Wellington to Tauranga road trip tips?

Planning a comprehensive multi-day road trip from Wellington to Tauranga can be a challenge. If you want your upcoming road trip to be as smooth as possible, keep these tips in mind.

  • Plan your route:
A 7-day road trip gives you plenty of time to explore at your own pace, but you can lose track of time if you're not careful. Plan your route each day to avoid backtracking or spending a long time in one area.
  • Stock up on the essentials:
You'll be passing many towns and cities, but they won't always have emergency equipment available. Bring a first-aid kit, a phone charger, some car repair tools, and other necessities before you head out on your journey.
  • Check the weather:
New Zealand's weather can get unpredictable, so you must have the gear to handle it. If snow and icy conditions are expected, then bring snow chains and drive slowly to avoid slipping on icy roads. Read up on winter driving tips to feel confident.
  • Rent a suitable car:
How many people are you bringing? Are you planning to go off-road? The best car for the trip will depend on your itinerary. Generally, a fuel-efficient hybrid or a 4WD are trustworthy cars to rent for this excursion.
  • Check road conditions:
This road trip will lead you to winding mountain roads, coastal highways, narrow urban streets, and loose gravel paths. Drive safely and ensure that your car can handle those conditions before embarking on the trip.

The photo was taken at Island Bay Beach to recreate/revamp a picture that was taken when we were little in the same spot. We're originally from Wellington but have lived overseas now since '96. From start to finish booking the car with GO Rentals has been super easy! Renting a car can be scary with hidden fees etc. But everything was clear, upfront, and seamless. I spent no more than 5 mins at pick up/return. I've been a returning customer for over 15 years because of this service! Thank you again. Always an absolute pleasure with high-quality cars and service.

  • Andrew

Exploring beautiful New Zealand in a GO Rentals car is sheer pleasure. Having the freedom of your own vehicle to find public roads that allow you to soak up the view is a vital part of the NZ experience. Our GO Rentals Toyota Highlander was the perfect vehicle...

  • Trevor

We set ourselves a challenge to do the 20km Tongariro Crossing before we got too old. Pleased to say we made it…just. It was a great experience and for us a great achievement. Magnificent scenery and we had perfect weather. It made us appreciate how easy travelling around NZ in a GO Rentals vehicle was compared to having to use your own legs to get anywhere.

  • Mehul

We had a family holiday in Tauranga and Rotorua for the school holidays. After visiting the 3D Trick Art Gallery and picking up some food we were ready to sit on a bench and enjoy our lunch at a park. Being school holidays, all benches were packed and the park full, that is when our (GO rentals) Ford Ranger Ute came in handy, where we could still be outdoors, sit under the sun, and feed some hungry puku's :)
