GO with Confidence: New Zealand Driving Tips
Finally, because we know driving in another country can give you the kind of chills that’s not from the winter air, we’ve rounded up our top tips for helping you cruise around with confidence. Read up on them before you embark on your journey:
- To the left, to the left:
Make like Beyonce and drive on the left side of the road when you’re cruising around New Zealand.
- Safety first:
It’s a requirement to wear your seatbelt at all times in New Zealand so don’t be caught without it.
- Toll roads:
For a stress-free car rental, read up on toll roads in New Zealand. If you are road tripping the South Island then don’t sweat, all toll roads are located on the North Island. There are only 3 situated around Auckland and Tauranga. You can pay for tolls via the New Zealand Transport Authority website, via the NZTA tolling contact centre (0800 40 20 20) or via cash payment at a participating service station nearby a toll road.
- Beware of the ice:
Be mindful of snow and ice on the roads during winter (June-August), particularly on the mountain passes. Slow down if needed and check out our winter driving tips.
With a bit of knowledge, you can GO with peace of mind, just don’t forget to stop and smell the mountain air!
