Auckland Harbour Bridge Climb Sunset AJ Hackett

The Auckland Harbour Bridge is one of the most recognised icons of the city, if not the most recognised, connecting the CBD via St Mary’s Bay to Auckland’s North Shore.

It is not only a vital transport route for daily commuters but also a place where you can have some fun by way of bridge climb and bungy!

It sounds like something that shouldn’t be possible but it absolutely is and makes for a memorable experience which we’ll try and do justice to below.

The Bridge Climb

Auckland Harbour Bridge Climb AJ Hackett

The Bungy and Bridge Climb was the brainchild of Kiwi entrepreneur and extreme sports legend, AJ Hackett, who famously performed his first amateur bungy jump off the Harbour Bridge in 1986.

From this point on some say adventure tourism was born with Hackett opening the first commercial public bungy in the world in Queenstown in 1988.

The Auckland Harbour Bridge Climb and Bungy came later but has quickly become one of the most highly rated and thrilling activities you can experience in the city and it’s easy to understand why.

With a 360 degree view of the Waitemata harbour and dynamic city skyline, Auckland’s Harbour Bridge Climb brings you a view of New Zealand with a difference.

Not only do you get to walk on the bridge, you’ll get to walk along the engineered walkways across the highest beams some 200 ft above water. For those looking for an alternative perspective on Auckland’s history and architecture, you won’t find one more unique than this. You’ll be creating your own photo opportunities with amazing panoramic views.

The Bungy

Auckland Harbour Bridge Bungy Jump AJ Hackett

For those who are after something even more thrilling, you can’t go past the Harbour Bridge Bungy.

Following the famous footsteps of AJ Hackett himself, you’ll have the opportunity to take the leap from the Bungy Pod and fall 130ft down towards the Waitemata Harbour.

Unlike AJ Hackett, you won’t be arrested for doing so but still have the same adrenaline-fueled experience he did those many years ago.

For those wanting to add an extra edge jump, you can have the bungy extended just enough so that your hands touch the ocean! It’s one that gives you everything you expect and more!
