Waiheke Island is a great destination and one of the most popular for those visiting Auckland, the City of Sails. It has its own tropical sub-climate, beautiful scenery, the vibrant Oneroa village, amazing beaches and vineyards galore.

Thanks to EcoZip, Waiheke also boasts a thrilling ziplining adventure experience and with your GO Play card, you get a 10% discount!

What is Ziplining?

For those who haven’t had the pleasure, ziplining is an adrenalin-packed adventure that involves being strapped to a harness and suspended from a cable that goes from one vantage point (usually a treetop) to the next. It’s sort of a cross between a bungy jump and a flying fox.

In the old days, they were used to transport goods and produce from one side of a river/valley to the other. These days they are used to transport people keen to experience beautiful scenery whilst getting the heart pumping at the same time.

EcoZip Ziplining and Forest Walk

Ziplining with EcoZip is not your ordinary ziplining experience (if zip lining can be described as ordinary). The EcoZip experience includes 3 different ziplines with dual cables so you can speed down the line and share the thrill with a friend at your side (we smell a race coming on). This is followed by a stunning guided nature walk providing a nice sense of balance to your experience.

Zip One: The Vineyard Cruise

EcoZIp on Waiheke - ziplining over the vineyards

The first zip line, as you might’ve guessed by the title, is one that takes you over a working vineyard with 2,000 vines producing an award-winning Syrah. It’s a gentle zip to get you started, with beautiful views of the islands of the Hauraki Gulf including the impressive Rangitoto Island.

At 220m in length, you’ll have plenty of time to take it all in, armed with a GoPro or camera if you want to boost your social media likes for the week.

Zip Two: The City View

Ecozip Waiheke - Auckland city views

The City View zip line is a great experience which features magnificent views of the Auckland City skyline and more. Starting above the native bush forest canopy, you’ll quickly descend down into the forest which has been designated a site of environmental significance.

Zip Two is also a nice one to relax through, though if you’re feeling competitive you can “do the bomb” and race your partner to the other side!

Zip Three: Kurinui

EcoZip Waiheke - woodland guided tour

Zip Three Kurinui, is the main event and is an awe-inspiring experience. “Kurinui” itself is a Maori word and your knowledgeable guide will explain its meaning and save us from spoiling the surprise.

This zip line is quick and if you can avoid the temptation of closing your eyes on the way down, you’ll see more pretty vineyards, native bush and beautiful views of Auckland’s eastern beaches.

The landing spot is on a sheltered terrace with a great vantage point for you to capture more memories.

Guided Nature Walk

Following the three ziplines, you’ll descend and immerse yourself into the scenery of the native bush around you. There’s an amazing and diverse variety of flora, fauna and wildlife including geckos, skinks, weta, freshwater crayfish and glow-worms.

The trees themselves are captivating with many Maori legends that’ll be shared by the guides, passed down from generation to generation.

The walk itself is comfortable enough to allow you to catch your breath from the excitement of the zip lines and will leave you with a strong sense of history and appreciation.
